This site is brought to you through the power of free software!

It runs on a Xen virtual machine at Rimu Hosting running the GNU/Linux operating system (to be specific it's the Debian distribution) and the pages are served up to you by the industry standard Apache webserver software.

The web pages themselves are created by the wonderful Typo3 content management system which lets me create pages easily and provides lots of free extensions to do all the useful interactive bits that this site does. Because these extensions are free software I'm quite legally allowed to tweak their code to fit what the site needs, otherwise I'd be stuck still trying to write things from scratch!

All the data for this site, the listings and the pages themselves, are stored using the MySQL database which is a heavy duty relational database and has become another part of the industry standard.

Not forgetting that you are accessing this site through the Internet, which is itself built using protocols that are openly specified and that anyone can implement without needing to ask permission or pay a fee.
